Renewable Energy Policy

In recognizing the need for Texas A&M to rise to the competition from other universities in their sustainability policies, Amanda Grosgebauer, in the fall of 2006, began to work with officials from the Physical Plant and Mays Business School--Reliant Energy Trading Center--in an effort to create a comprehensive proposal for Texas A&M to adopt a purchasing plan for renewable/clean energy credits.

Much research was done on what was geographically possible for the university, what it means to purchase Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) and how Texas A&M could make a difference in doing so.

This plan will be the first in the country to have the marketing, trading, and educational elements all tied into one program. It would be at the core of Texas A&M’s approach to helping combat the problem and would serve as the highest standard of university policies for clean energy that other universities and other business interests would have to rise to match.
